Fuhrman, David R. Visualizing the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic This data contains animated maps (provided as GIFs) visualizing the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic in the World and selected regions (presently Europe, Scandinavia, Asia, and the USA). The latest day maps are also provided separately as JPG files.<div><br></div><div>Time series plots depicting daily new cases and deaths for selected countries are also provided as a JPG file.</div><div><br></div><div>Results will be updated regularly during the pandemic as more data becomes available.</div><div><br></div><div>The World, Europe, Scandinavia, and Asia maps (also the time series for selected countries) present daily new confirmed cases and deaths by country. They are based on data made publicly available by the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) at:</div><div><a href="https://www.ecdc.europa.eu/en/publications-data/download-todays-data-geographic-distribution-covid-19-cases-worldwide">https://www.ecdc.europa.eu/en/publications-data/download-todays-data-geographic-distribution-covid-19-cases-worldwide</a><br></div><div><br></div><div>The USA maps present total confirmed cases and deaths by state. It is based on data from The New York Times, based on reports from state and local health agencies, publicly available at:</div><div><a href="https://github.com/nytimes/covid-19-data">https://github.com/nytimes/covid-19-data</a><br></div><div><br></div><div>Please also see their US tracking page at:<br></div><div><a href="https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2020/us/coronavirus-us-cases.html">https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2020/us/coronavirus-us-cases.html</a><br></div><div><br></div><div>Animations are made in Matlab, making use of the Mapping Toolbox. Map circles are created using the circlem.m function (Greene, 2020).
