CDM Pipeline Analysis and Database

online resource
posted on 2019-02-06, 07:58 authored by Jørgen Villy Fenhann
The UNEP DTU CDM Pipeline site contains an Excel sheet with all the 12000 CDM projects submitted to the Clean Development Mechanism under the Kyoto protocol of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). This Excel sheet also contains many tables and figures with analysis of these projects. Many of the tables and figures are showed on the web-site also.

The CDM projects are created in a developed country, and their greenhouse gas reductions (CERs) can be sold to the developed countries, that use them to fulfill their reduction commitments.

The CDMpipeline is update monthly and this has been done since the start of CDM in 2003.

A CDM project is submitted in the form of a Project Design Document (50-100 pages). It is then validated by an independent organisation and finally registered by the Executive Board of the CDM if it is ok.

When the project has been running for a period, it can ask the Executive Board for issuance of Certified Emission Reductions (CERs), which can be sold on the carbon market.

The CDM will finish operation in 2020, and will then be taken over by Article 6 of the Paris Agreement.
