Data for "Modelling large deflections through reduced-order multibody structures in the floating frame of reference formulation"
This dataset includes the input and result files of the numerical models used for the paper "Modelling large deflections through reduced-order multibody structures in the floating frame of reference formulation", as well as the scripts used to produce the plots in the paper.
In this paper, a method for modelling slender structures using the floating frame of reference formulation (FFRF) and reduced-order models generated from 3D solid finite elements (using the Hurty/Craig-Bampton method) is presented. It is based on a multibody approach, such that large deflections can be captured, and interface modes are used to reduce the interface degrees-of-freedom. A general multibody dynamics code - Exuydn - is used to implement this model.
The numerical examples include the static analysis of two beam structures (isotropic and composite), for each the following models are compared:
- Exudyn - Reduced-order FFRF model with interface modes
- Exudyn - Reduced-order FFRF model with rigid (RBE2) interfaces
- Exudyn - Reduced-order FFRF model without interface reduction
- Abaqus - Solid C3D20R elements
- HAWC2 - Beam elements-based FFRF model
