This dataset includes the input and result files of the numerical models used for the paper "Modelling large deflections through reduced-order multibody structures in the floating frame of reference formulation", as well as the scripts used to produce the plots in the paper.

In this paper, a method for modelling slender structures using the floating frame of reference formulation (FFRF) and reduced-order models generated from 3D solid finite elements (using the Hurty/Craig-Bampton method) is presented. It is based on a multibody approach, such that large deflections can be captured, and interface modes are used to reduce the interface degrees-of-freedom. A general multibody dynamics code - Exuydn - is used to implement this model.

The numerical examples include the static analysis of two beam structures (isotropic and composite), for each the following models are compared:

  • Exudyn - Reduced-order FFRF model with interface modes
  • Exudyn - Reduced-order FFRF model with rigid (RBE2) interfaces
  • Exudyn - Reduced-order FFRF model without interface reduction
  • Abaqus - Solid C3D20R elements
  • HAWC2 - Beam elements-based FFRF model
