This data set is for the manuscript "A conical passive magnetic bearing with constant stiffness".
The data describe the axial force between the rotor and the stator in a co-axial passive magnetic bearing. The bearing has a design of nested conical axi-symmetric magnet rings with a quadratic cross-section, and can be said to resemble two nested magnetic ``bowls''. We consider a design where the stator is larger than the rotor, i.e. the rotor is nested inside the stator. The rotor and stator are centered on the same axis, and when load is applied on the rotor bearing this will move along the z-axis.
The conical rings that make up both the rotor and the stator have quadratic cross-section side lengths of 3 mm. The radius of the center of the tilted ring in the stator is fixed at 24 mm, while it is varied for the rotor. We consider different tilt angles of the stator and rotor rings in the bearing, and these are always tilted by the same angle. We also consider extended ring geometries, with twice the cross-section and different magnetization directions, as indicated in the manuscript. We assume that the permanent magnets in the bearing have a remanence of 1.4 T and a relative permeability of 1.
Finally, we ensure that there is always a clearance between the rotor and the stator of 0.2 mm. At this value, the relative axial distance between the stator and the rotor, z-z_0, is defined to is 0 mm.
The three folders contain the data files for the three different magnetization directions considered, i.e. the single, double and alternating bearing geometries respectively, as also explained in the manuscript.
Within each of these folders, there are three sets of data files:
The data files named "Data_tilt_angle_XX.txt" contains the force in the axial direction on the rotor as function of relative axial displacement and rotor radius for the tilt angle XX.
The data files named "Data_tilt_angle_00_R_rotor_XXmm.txt" contains the force in the axial direction on the rotor as function of relative axial displacement for the tilt angle XX and the rotor radius XX only.
The data file "Data_volume.txt" contains the volume of the rotor and the stator as function rotor radius and tilt angle.
