Database for Novel Food Approvals within the European Union between 2018 and 2023
Database for novel food approvals within the European Union between 1 January 2018 and 31 December 2023. The metadata which contains the explanation of the variables are located in the ReadMe file.
The data in the database is obtained from extracting relevant variables from the 1) Commission Implementing Regulations by published the European Union, 2) Scientific Opinions or Technical Reports published by the European Food Safety Authority, and 3) OpenQuestions webpage by the European Food Safety Authority. The data are largely split into three types of novel food approvals (new novel food, modification of an already authorised novel food, and traditional food). From these, the variables include the organisation that submitted the application, country of application, the dates at which each assessment stage was performed or completed, clock-stops, type of allergenicity risk assessments performed, protein content, anticipated maximum daily intake level, estimated protein intake, and the likelihood of allergenicity. The database is best viewed when filtered against the "Type of Novel Food Approval" variable.
