X-ray fluorescence (XRF) - Chemical characterisation of brick clay and SSA

Material characterisation: brick clay (yellow and red) and sewage sludge ashes (raw, ED-treated and A2P-treated)

The chemical composition was determined by semi-quantitative analysis by XRF with a Malvern PanAnalytical Epsilon 4 EDXRF, on fused beads. Fused beads were prepared by mixing 1.6 g of powder sample with 10 g of fluxing agent: 67% lithium tetraborate and 33% lithium metaborate. Oxide content was reported as a percentage of the total sum of measured oxides, including loss on ignition at 1050°C (LoI1050), determined by heating 1 g of the sample for 15 minutes.
