2024 Bachelor project: Multimodal Imaging of Cochlea towards In Vivo Translation
Through the butchery school at ZBC in Roskilde, I made an arrangement to harvest cochleae from their 6-months-old pigs after euthanization for educational purposes had taken place.
The samples were fixed in 4% formaldehyde in a ventilated refrigerator at 4 degree Celsius for three days before moving forward with the trimming process.
"Rough Trimming.mov" shows the rough trimming process using a bone cutter.
"Fine Trimming.mov" demonstrates the fine-trimming process using a industrial grinder from PROXXON for detailed sample preparation.
Three cochleae were damaged during the trimming process, leaving a sample size of 5 cochleae.
"Preservation and Labelling.mov" shows how each trimmed cochlea is preserved in small labelled containers and stored in a refrigerator. Samples are labelled as PC001, PC002, PC003, PC004, and PC005.
"Mounting.mov" demonstrates how to mount a cochlea sample on cotton-wool with PBS and forceps.
