This dataset contains a series of high-resolution photographs (.jpg) documenting an in-situ observation of a pair of adult lumpsuckers (Cyclopterus lumpus) displaying pre-spawning behaviour near Frøya, Trøndelag, Norway, on 6 October 2025.

The images were taken during snorkelling at 2–4 m depth in a kelp forest dominated by Laminaria hyperborea. The male, vividly orange-red, was observed circling a larger grey-blue female attached to the kelp frond, consistent with courtship behaviour described by Goulet et al. (1986).

The encounter forms the basis of the short communication “Beyond the spring season: an autumn observation of adult lumpsuckers (Cyclopterus lumpus) in coastal Norway raises questions on extended spawning activity” submitted for scientific publication (Henriksen et al.).

All files are provided in .jpg format and may be freely reused for scientific and educational purposes under the stated license.
