StructuralReuse - WP2. M2.1 Non-destructive testmethods
This document forms a summary of the current methods to non-destructively investigate structural components of steel, concrete, and wood, and the measuring equipment widely available and utilized in the current building industry. The document is founded on the functional requirements collated in Work Package 1, M1.1. Functional requirements for steel, concrete and wood, and the process outlined on the requisite functional requirements for building components. We kindly refer the reader to the documents containing work package 1, for more information regarding said functional requirements. This represents the milestone of Grand Solutions development-project Business Reuse, Work package 2, T2.1 Overview and rating of Non-destructive Test methods (NDT). The report can be read as a continuation of DTU’s state of the art article, constituting a white paper of the current field of non-destructive test methods. The summary aims to identify currently available equipment and recommendations required to estimate the material quality of the building component. It is necessary to underline that non-destructive test methods are solely intended to estimate the quality of the building material. Non-destructive testing can never stand on its own, and always require destructive testing to calibrate the results and provide more detail regarding the material. Non-destructive testing is solely used to reduce the need of destructive testing – to estimate that the building material is uniform, and representative of the results found by destructive testing. All use of this report and guidelines within, are solely the readers responsibility. The guidelines are provided on an informational level only.
