The rebound mechanisms identification tool
About the tool
Building upon efforts into ‘cracking the rebound effects (RE) code’ that conceptually associated the dynamics between circular economy business model (CEBM) patterns and rebound mechanisms, this tool aims to assist designers in systematically identifying potential rebound mechanisms emerging from CEBM.
How do we help you identify rebound effects?
The rebound mechanisms identification tool guides you in a set of steps:
1. Analyse your business model:
a. Identify the CEBM patterns that are relevant to your case.
b. Determine the actors relevant to your case.
2. Determine the consumption factors potentially stimulated in your case
3. Review the scenarios for consumption factors stimulation and the potential rebound mechanisms activated
4. Access recommendations for your case
What is this tool based on?
The database sustaining the rebound mechanisms identification tool builds upon the systematic investigation of the intricate relationships between 26 archetypical structures that explain rebound mechanisms – i.e., the underlying economic and behavioural causal chains that lead to RE (Guzzo et al., 2024) and 24 CEBM patterns – i.e., BM configuration options that embody the full spectrum of circular strategies that may be employed by a given company (Pieroni et al., 2021), representing the state-of-art knowledge in both fields. The database work sustaining the database is under review as a journal contribution (Guzzo and Pigosso, 2024a) and the application of the tool as a conference contribution (Guzzo and Pigosso, 2024b).
